Festival launches Casa do Jazz with free cultural programming

The House of Jazz will operate daily, from 9am to 9pm, bringing together music, gastronomy, cinema and interactivity, from February 29 to March 29, to host a special program of the 10th Amazonas Jazz Festival

Bringing together music, gastronomy, cinema and interactivity, the House of Artslocated at Rua José Clemente, 564, Centro, next to the Amazonas Theater, will become the House of Jazzfrom February 29th to March 29th, to receive a special program of the 10th Amazonas Jazz Festival. The event is a realization of the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy.

The Jazz House will operate daily, from 9am to 9pm, with free access for the public. In partnership with Cine Set, a site from Manaus specialized in cinema and TV series, the space will show more than 30 films that dialogue with jazz. The sessions will take place from 7 pm, from Monday to Thursday; on Fridays two films will be shown, at 5 pm and 7 pm; and on Sundays, at 6 pm. The full schedule is available on the event's Instagram @festivalamazonasjazz.

One of the highlights of the movie marathon is the acclaimed documentary series "The History of Jazz", directed by Ken Burns, which records the evolution of the genre since its birth in New Orleans (USA). Every Thursday two episodes of the series will be shown, followed by a debate between Renildo Rodrigues, member of Cine Set, and Rui Carvalho, artistic director of the Amazonas Jazz Festival. The public will also be able to participate in the chat.

Other confirmed titles on the program are "Bird", "Whiplash", "Chico & Rita", "The Life of Miles Davis", "Susie and the Baker Boys", "Bossa Nova", "Chicago", "Cotton Club", "What Happened, Miss Simone?", "The Jazz Singer", "Kansas City", "The Great Gatsby", "La La La Land", "The Man with the Golden Arm" and "Chet Baker - The Jazz Legend".

In addition to the films, visitors will have access to two thematic interactive rooms. One of them, called "Sala Experiência", will reproduce the atmosphere of the traditional jazz clubs in New York and will pay a tribute to the Amazonas Band, which is celebrating 20 years of creation. The public will be able to take pictures on the stage and, with virtual reality goggles, choose between the experience of being next to the orchestra on a stage or following a waiter narrating the history of the emergence of jazz.

For those who dream of being a musician for a day, the "Experience the Sound of Jazz Room" will offer the opportunity to play a wind instrument - saxophone, trombone, trumpet or transverse flute. The sounds of each instrument will be heard individually through headphones by whoever is playing, and at the end of the experience they will be collected and played for the participants.

The Casa do Jazz will also host a store with personalized products from the Amazonas Jazz Festival and the Blue In Green Café, whose name was inspired by a song written by the American trumpet player and composer Miles Davis (1926-1991), one of the most legendary musicians of the genre.

"We are also programming musical interventions in the Largo de São Sebastião in the style of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, where artists and bands surprise the public with incredible performances in the streets," adds the executive producer and general coordinator of the festival, Inês Daou.

The jazz performances will take place every Saturday, starting this weekend. The first attraction will be Tubones Corala group from the Amazonas State University (UEA) formed by 12 musicians - eight tenor trombones, two bass trombones, one tuba, and one drum -, and coordinated by the director of the School of Arts and Tourism (Esat/UEA), professor Fábio Carmo.
