This past Saturday, May 19, another edition of the Cannes Film Festival was closed with the presentation of the awards of the competitive showcase. Among the main award winners were the films "Capharnaum" by Nadine Labaki with the Jury Prize, "Blackkklansman" by Spike Lee with the Grand Jury Prize and "Shoplifters" by Hirokazu Koreeda with the prestigious Palme d'Or. To continue with the festival mood, the Cine Video Tarumã decides to screen films that have won awards in previous editions. They are "Without Love", "The Wonders" e "Divine".
The project's sessions are free and always take place at 12:30pm, in the Rio Negro Auditorium of the Institute of Philosophy, Human and Social Sciences (IFCHS), located in the North sector of the University Campus.
On Monday, 21, will be screened the feature film "Lovelessby Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev. The film won at the 2017 Cannes edition the second Jury Prize for Zvyagintsev and also received nominations for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards. The film's story involves the disappearance of the 12-year-old son of a couple who are about to separate. In the course of the projection, the viewer follows the investigations and, as a result, the motives for the boy's attitude.
On Wednesday, 23rd, it's time to show "The Wonders. It was directed by Alice Rohrwacher who has just received the Best Screenplay award at this year's edition in Cannes. With "The Wonders", Rohrwacher received the Grand Jury Prize. The film tells the story of a family in the Italian countryside who tend bees. This family nucleus is destabilized by the arrival of an unknown boy in the place and the appearance of a Tv crew that seeks to document the family's daily life.
Closing the schedule, on Friday, 25, will be screened "Divine", by Houda Benyamina. With this film, Benyamina won the Golden Camera, an award aimed at new directors, at the festival in 2016. The film tells the story of Dounia. She lives in a community dominated by crime and to try to change her financial situation she decides to become a drug dealer.
