Rooster of Manaus
Participation in the Galo de Manaus is free.
There will be frevo and baião together and mixed in the carnival of Manaus. People from Pernambuco who are nostalgic for their hometown and people from Manaus who enjoy both rhythms will have fun today (28), at the Galo de Manaus block, starting at 2 pm, at Avenida das Torres. With the theme "Baião Frevô", the party will pay tribute to Luiz Gonzaga, one of the great names in Brazilian popular music.
"He is a Pernambucanian who did a lot for the culture of the people of the Northeast and for Brazil. He is an icon of national culture, highly respected. This is the idea: the Pernambucan culture of Luiz Gonzaga's baião, which infected the whole of Brazil, as well as the frevo culture. We are uniting both cultures in carnival", explained the bloco's producer, Théo Alves.
Luiz Gonzaga's repertoire will be played by all the bands invited by the block, in addition to the official Frevo Band and Orchestra of Galo de Manaus.
"We will perform Luiz Gonzaga's songs, a part of them in baião and another part in frevo, played with accordion. The presentations will be diverse and with a very large Luiz Gonzaga repertoire. All the bands will play at least one of his songs, but one in particular, which is "Mão pra Riba", will bring two hours of homage playing exclusively Luiz Gonzaga's songs, part in frevo rhythm, part in baião rhythm. This will be our tribute," said Alves.
The dance group Artes sem Fronteiras, which is part of a social project, promises to make the public dance frevo at Galo de Manaus. The 20 dancers will also perform baião steps.
The Galo de Manaus was created in 2004 by people from Pernambuco who came to work in the city's industrial district and was inspired by the Galo da Madrugada, from Recife, considered the biggest block in the world. The first party in the capital of Amazonas brought together about 150 players and currently attracts an audience of at least 100,000 people.
