The festival is free of charge.
O Largo São Sebastiãoin the center of Manaus, will be the stage for Malaba Jam Festival (MJF), this Saturday, August 4th, for the first time. In this edition, in addition to a tribute to Rafael Derzi, aka Malaba, who died five years ago, the festival will pay tribute to the artists Maurizio Torres, aka Maumao, and Bob Medina, who died this year. The festival is free and has the support of the Manaus City Hall, through the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult).
On the MJF lineup, DJ Kimono (Amazontribe) vs PH (Jacundá Crew); O Tronxo (jam with Marcelo Nakamura and Marcos Cileno); Gramophone (jam with Milton Cabocrioulo); Alaídenegão (jam with Frederico Ramos, The Stone Ramos crooner and digger); Os Tucumanus and Jhonny Jack Mesclado. During the breaks, DJs Tubarão and Portuga take over the pick-ups.
One of the organizers of the Malaba Jam Festival, Lane Lima, emphasizes that, besides a musical meeting, the festival keeps its social purpose of collecting food for the Raio de Sol group, which gives support to children with blood diseases.
"In all its editions, the Malaba Jam Festival receives donations of food, such as rice, beans, noodles, oil, coffee, sugar, cans of powdered whole milk, and food supplements, with the purpose of helping the Raio de Sol Group, which voluntarily supports children with blood diseases, from low-income families, being treated at Hemoam. These donations are MJF's trademark, which is why everyone's contribution is so important. We will have a collection point at the event," she said.
According to Lane, the festival has been growing with each new edition, both in terms of audience and donations. "Many people never got to know Malaba, and many even come to us to participate, helping voluntarily in the organization. I feel very grateful for all that the festival generates of good energy and the feeling of solidarity", she commented.
Tributes
In addition to the tribute to Rafael Derzi, aka Malaba, the musician who gives the festival its name, the event will pay special tribute to the artists Maurizio Torres, aka Maumao, and Bob Medina, who also left, prematurely, this year.
"We want to keep alive the memory of these artists who contributed so much to the cultural scene in Amazonas," said Lane.
The Kirar group, Nativos Crew, with co-direction by Carol Calderaro and live soundtrack by Marcos Tubarão, will perform "Hey Bob!!!", paying tribute to Medina.
The group of visual artists led by Romahs Mascarenhas, and formed by Débora Erê, Kerolayne Kemblim, Nadja Kristina, Turenko Beça, and Lobão, will show all the poignant expressiveness of the region through live interferences. One of the highlights will be the realistic style painting of Maumao's face by graffiti artist Lobão.
