Manaus is hosting, for the first time, the ExpoÍndia Fairthat takes place until June 4th, at the Amazonas Shopping Amazonas Shopping. The products on display represent well the ethnic and cultural multiplicity of India, the second most populous country in the world.
The exhibition is itinerant and has passed through several capitals of the country, as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Natal. The first edition of the fair, in Manaus, takes place in the Central Events Square of the Amazonas Shopping, working from Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 10pm, and on Sundays, from 2pm to 9pm.
With more than 100 different types of products, the fair brings together items such as pashiminas, carpets, furniture, bags, crockery, among other items. Among the highlights of the fair are sculptures of Indian deities and hand-carved wooden pieces. Traditional Indian carpets are also part of the fair, with unique pieces made with silk thread.
According to Tasaduq Hussain Baba, one of the organizers of the fair, the strong point of the exhibition is the careful selection of products, which are, in their totality, brought by communities of Indian artisans. Tasaduq, who is also an artisan, explains that the pieces are produced with raw materials such as wood, ceramics, and fabric, and serve the most different uses, such as decoration, clothing, and furniture.
He points out that India is a very colorful and joyful country and that, for this reason, the country's handicrafts call Brazilians' attention. "There is a great identification between the two countries", he highlighted.
