Educators emphasized good traffic practices with a simple and easy-to-understand language.
Children and teenagers, assisted in the LBV's Community Center for Social Assistance (CCAS), received guidance from the team of traffic educators from the Municipal Institute of Engineering and Traffic Supervision (Manaustrans), regarding good practices in traffic.
With a simple and easy to understand language, the educators emphasized the care that one should take when crossing the street; the correct use of seat belts; the attention to the traffic lights for pedestrians and vehicles; the use of safety equipment for cyclists and motorcyclists; they showed educational videos with animations that caught everyone's attention; besides a ludic activity called "experience" where the children participated and learned the correct way to ask for passage at the crosswalk.
Socorro Leão, Educational Coordinator of the LBV, regarding the initiative of the municipal traffic agency in passing this information to children, said: "I believe that the fundamental role of the Manaustrans team is to perform an educational action to make our junior pedestrians aware in a playful way and through this information form conscious citizens for a better present and future."
The Traffic Educator, Rineida Santos, thanked the invitation from the Legion of Good Will and affirmed that "Manaustrans' doors are open for any action that the LBV develops with its beneficiaries regarding traffic." Still according to Rineida, "this activity of Manaustrans together with the LBV generates results, as it makes children interested in the subject and spread the message to their families."
João Boaventura, LBV's Social Educator, said that "the activity is very interesting, it brought benefits to the children that they will certainly pass on to their families and consequently help save lives. I really liked the videos, the playful part and especially the guidance about the right ages for children to sit in the front seat of the car and to ride a motorcycle."
It is worth pointing out that the age allowed by the Brazilian Traffic Code for children to be transported in the front seat is from 10 years old and on motorcycles, from 07 years old. A very important recommendation in vehicles that have "airbag" installed is that children, even if they are 10 years of age or older, but are not 1.5 meters (five feet) tall, should not sit in the front seat of the vehicle, because the triggering of the safety equipment (in case of an accident) can cause serious head injuries to the child.
