The Manaus City Hall holds, on the next 15 and 16/8, the minicourse on the art of making flower arrangements, using native species of the Amazon. The mini-course, which takes place monthly in the Lagoa Verde Park of Japiim, this time will be at a different time and place: from 8am to 10am, in the Auditorium of the Mindu Municipal Parkin Parque Dez, Center-South zone. The goal is to provide a contact of students with the rich native Amazonian flora and highlight the beauty of branches and leaves, which may look like forest waste, but become beautiful arrangements.
The minicourse will be given by the technician from the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability (Semmas), Agenor dos Santos Xavier. He explains that, on the first day, he will teach the techniques for handling and assembling the flowers and foliage. "Handling is important because it will determine the durability of the flower and consequently of the arrangement. We will focus on harvesting, cleaning, and cutting, which require specific techniques when dealing with natural tropical species," says Agenor. Depending on how they are harvested and handled, the arrangement can last up to 15 days.
The second class will be practical and will focus on the actual assembly of an arrangement, using unusual materials, such as dry branches for example. Those interested in participating can call (92) 3236-7330, from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm, and register. The mini-courses are part of the Environmental Education policy of the Manaus City Hall, run by Semmas.
