Starting this Thursday (2/20), the public can check out the exhibition "Makú Tá Muraki: Baré art interchanging with the presenton display at the Amazonian Museum Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), in the Center. The narrative of the exhibition tells the story of the Baré people, the constitution of the Parque das Tribos community, in the neighborhood of Tarumã (Manaus/AM), and the cultural manifestations passed on at the Wakenai Anumarehit school.
Coming from the Upper Negro River region, the Baré people started migrating to urban centers during the 19th and 20th centuries, influenced mainly by the contact with non-Indians, having a history marked by violence and exploitation in extractive work, but also full of struggle and resistance.
It is in this context that the Baré participate, along with other indigenous ethnic groups, in the creation of the Parque das Tribos in 2014, transforming it into a space of recognition before society and the Brazilian State. Located in the neighborhood of Tarumã in Manaus, the site has as its mission the protection, promotion, and recovery of identities, material and immaterial memory of indigenous people and their descendants, from a management of indigenous social autonomy.
Taking into account the representativeness housed in the Parque das Tribos, it is necessary to value the actions of these people in search of better social conditions, and the fight for their rights in order to feel like indigenous Brazilian citizens by enjoying the same rights and duties of other indigenous people from villages in other regions of the country. The exhibition is part of this, as an open space for the propagation of their stories and cultures.
The exhibition will be on display at the Museu Amazônico until June 10th. Visits are free and take place from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
