Seringal Vila Paraíso Museum
The Seringal Vila Paraíso Museum, located at the São João Igarapé, in the rural area of Manaus, was inaugurated on August 16, 2002. The space reproduces a rubber plantation at the end of the XIX century and beginning of the XX century, the period of the rubber cycle and a period of great economic growth in Amazonas.
During the guided tours, it is possible to see from the rubber production process to the latent difference between the rubber tapper's way of life, who lived in slave-like conditions, and the rubber tapper's, the owner of the rubber plantation who lived a life of luxury and comfort, even though he was in the forest.
The facilities were originally used as locations for the filming of the feature film "The Jungle", by Portuguese director Leonel Vieira, who adapted the book of the same name by Portuguese writer Ferreira Castro. As a counterpart to the support given by the Amazonas State Government to the production of the film, the set was donated to the Secretary of Culture, which transformed it into the Seringal Vila Paraíso Museum.
The collection consists of period settings - rubber cycle - with furniture and utensils that testify the wealth of the rubber plantations, when rubber was at the peak of its economic value.
