Parque Senador Jefferson Péres
Senator Jefferson Péres Park is a public space, with 53,421m², built in an area of old stilt invasion that interfered with the Manaus and Bittencourt streams, two traditional urban spots in the city of Manaus.
Aiming at the recovery of the environment, the Park allows its visitors to learn about a little of the political, social, and landscape history of the capital of Amazonas, especially the period of the rubber economy, from the way it was structured - the vegetation, the layout, the architecture, the symmetry, the symbology, in short, a whole atmosphere that marked that historical period.
Besides being a place where it is possible to observe species of the Amazon flora, the Park is also a refuge for the population, offering, with high quality, the most diverse cultural activities.
Itinerary of Visitation:
- WATER MIRRORS: 2 side pools with 12 water jets each.
- PORTAL (PÓRTICO): Transparent landmark, made of iron, is topped by metal lace with a design similar to the gazebo at the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market, recovering and valuing decorative traces recognized by the great mass of Manaus' population. The floor repeats the model of the Largo de São Sebastião's adornment, registering the meeting of the waters of the Negro and Solimões rivers.
- PLACE OF THE AIRCRAFT: It is in the Park in honor of the mechanic and driver Silvino Santos, who in the middle of 1928, still during the government of Ephigênio Salles, built, in the back of the Rio Negro Palace, a hydroplane, from a cardboard model that was later assembled with metallic plates, canvas, and wood. It was baptized Amazonas-Brasil and never took off.
- FENCE OF THE WINGED LIONS Fountain: The WINGED LIONS Fountain is inserted in the Park in remembrance of the lions' fountain that was installed beside the garden of the Mother Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, by the mayor and doctor Jorge de Moraes, in the middle of 1910. The fountain recreates the model of the original fountain, having in its upper part a woman/goddess, with an illuminated globe in her right hand, inside a fountain of water. The Park's fountain is surrounded by pools called "vitórias-régias", ornamented by live fences of ixóreas flowers.
- CHARRETE'S PACE: It is in the Park to recreate the old means of transportation used by the manauara population, which was the "charrete". This square is currently a meeting point for visitors who seek the Park's physical activity guidance services - a Physical Education teacher supervises and accompanies the practice of exercises, from Monday to Friday, from 5pm to 9pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays there is also a "Dance Class" in the external area of the Portal. (For more information, contact the Park Administration).
- PRAÇA DO BONDE: Its insertion in the Park seeks to remember the electric tramway, which was the characteristic urban transport of the Belle Époque period in Manaus, in the middle of Eduardo Ribeiro's government, in 1896. A special tramway called the "Governor's tramway" was installed inside the Rio Negro Palace, seat of the state government. Manaus was the third city in Brazil to inaugurate electric tramway services, until its extinction in 1957.
- PLAY GROUND "CASINHA" For children from 0 to 5 years old
- PLAY GROUND "ADVENTURE" For children from 5 to 10 years old
- PERFUMED CORRIDORS: The scented corridors are made up of iron tunnels, scattered in some parts of the park. They have this name because they are surrounded by branches of "Jasmim Caramanchão", which exhale the fragrance of its flowers all over the place.
- ORCHIDARIAN: The visits to the nursery are accompanied by Biological Science trainees, who explain some information about the 45 species of Orchids and Bromeliads existing in the place. The space is open from THURSDAY through SUNDAY, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
- MASTRO: Next to the entrance gate of the Park is located a mast. With 60 meters high, the mast is the hoisting point of the Amazonas State Flag, which measures 12.55m X 17.25m.
- MONUMENT TO JEFFERSON PÉRES: This monument was inaugurated on March 19, 2013, during the term of Omar Aziz's government and, like the name given to this Park, honors Senator Jefferson Péres (1932-2008). Born in Manaus, professor, writer and intellectual of robust humanistic training, brilliant parliamentarian, man of readiness and beloved manauara, in his generation Jefferson Péres was highlighted in the Senate by the press and Brazilian citizens as the ultimate symbol of the struggle for the preservation of ethics in politics and left to his fellow citizens the priceless legacy of the praise of his homeland before the country and the pride that his exemplary representation infused in his countrymen.
