As of September 1st, the Brazilian vehicle plates will start to be substituted by a new model that follows the pattern established by Mercosul. Approved by the National Transit Council (Contran)The change must be made by December 31, 2023, when the entire national vehicle fleet must be running with the new identification. The price to be charged for the plates has not been defined yet.
Coated with retroreflective film, the new plates will have a white background with blue top margin and the images of the Brazilian flag and the Mercosul symbol, keeping the current seven alphanumeric characters. According to resolution nº 729, published in the Diário Oficial of the Union of this Thursday (8), the measure also applies to trailers, semi-trailers, motorcycles, tricycles, scooters, cycle electrics, quadricycles, mopeds, tractors, and cranes, which will be identified by a single plate, installed on the back.
