Antônio Bittencourt Square
A Antônio Bittencourt Squarepopularly known as Praça do Congresso Congress Square, direct reference to the 1st Eucharistic Diocesan Congress of Manaus and the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the Bishopric of Amazonas, held in this location in June 1942.
Initially known as Largo do Paiçandu, then as Praça Cinco de Setembro, receiving its current name in honor of the renowned politician of the time Antônio Clemente Ribeiro Bittencourt. It was re-inaugurated on December 2, 2012, by Governor Omar Aziz, through the Secretary of Culture. Located between Rua da Constituição, Rua Ramos Ferreira and Rua Monsenhor Coutinho.
In its center is the Instituto de Educação do Amazonas - IEA, the Instituto Benjamin Constant, the Post Office building where the Department of Public Health used to be and on the corner of Rua Monsenhor Coutinho and Av. Eduardo Ribeiro is the Ideal Club, of imposing architecture.
The square has been the place for great popular, civic, political and religious celebrations. The square was also used for civic ceremonies for the opening of the Homeland Week, commemorative ceremonies for the Symbolic Fire of the Homeland, event related to the National Traffic Week, concentration point for the demonstration of school marching bands from the Institute of Education, Benjamin Constant Institute, Brazilian College, and Dom Bosco College, inauguration of Governor Gilberto Mestrinho, the Diretas Já Rally, concentration point for carnival parades, school parades commemorating the Amazonas Day, and social and sport events.
Structure
At the Antônio Bittencourt Square, facing the building of the Institute of Education of Amazonas, there is the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Monument, a reference to the 1st Eucharistic Diocesan Congress of Manaus and the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the Bishopric of Amazonas, held at this location in July 1942. In the center is the mast with the National Flag, facing Av. Eduardo Ribeiro is the map of old Manaus, the bronze bust in honor of Governor Eduardo Ribeiro and cylinder (bottle) that fed the lighting at the time of gas, Av.
The Praça Antonio Bittencourt is formed by four islands (gardens), and its paths are paved with sandstone stones, concrete benches, boundary balls, guides for the visually impaired located on the sidewalks of the four islands, ramps for wheelchair users, sound system, lighting and hydraulic, X9 magazine stands, Tacacá da Baiana and Sebo.
