After almost a month of the deputy mayor, Marcos Rotta, having announced a new value, Mayor Artur Neto announces, on Tuesday (21), new value of bus fare that will be R$ 3.80
The mayor of Manaus, Artur Virgílio Neto, announced on Tuesday (21), the fare increase of public transport in the city. The value is now R$ 3.80. The information was released by the mayor himself, during a press conference at the Military House auditorium, after almost a month of the deputy mayor, Marcos Rotta, having announced a new value.
At the beginning of the press conference, the mayor started by saying that if he didn't increase the fare, the system would break down. In addition to making a series of criticisms to the State Governor, José Melo, for suspending the collection of the Tax on Goods and Services (ICMS) and Tax on Ownership of Motor Vehicles (IPVA).
"In the last press conference I talked about my cancer. Today I'm going to talk about another cancer, which is the tax incentives of the State Government. Direct flights to Argentina are good for the rich, but the subsidy for public transport is not good. This is personal revenge", said Artur. According to the mayor, if the City didn't increase the fare, the city government would have to pay almost R$ 100 million in subsidies. "I had no choice. My responsibility", he highlighted.
The mayor also said that the student fare will be maintained. The new value will start to be charged this Saturday (25).
Improvements
After the fare increase, the mayor said that improvements in public transport will be made. Arthur said that 200 air-conditioned buses will be added to the city's fleet.
"By the end of the year, new buses will be added. We will also insert the entertainment system like those we have inside airplanes. Besides making the WI-FI system available to the population in the terminals," commented Artur.
