Made with part of the structure in taipa (mud and wood), the houses number 69 and 77, on Bernardo Ramos Street, in the Center, carry in its architecture, a part of the history of Manaus, dating from the colonial period, before what is most commonly found in the historic center of the city, built in the rubber boom time.

Considered the oldest homes in the capital of Amazonas, built in 1819, the houses, twinned, had the reform started by the Manaus City Hall. The work, which began two weeks ago, has 120 days to be completed by the company DPT Guedes and Cia Lta, winner of the bidding, worth $ 540,623.20.

"These houses are the last examples of this era and, for us, have a significant value in the recovery of the history of our city. They make up a whole architectural ensemble that is very important for the revitalization of the Historic Center of Manaus. We hope that this story is told, that society and tourists can have here, in these houses, access to it, "said the CEO of the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), Bernardo Monteiro de Paula.

He also pointed out that for the assignment of use, will be called for a call for proposals. "We will have public calls for ideas to convene civil society to propose uses of these spaces, provided that the historical value of them are safeguarded," explained the CEO of Manauscult.

"It is a work that generated a lot of expectation. There is a local demand from the population, especially here around Bernardo Ramos street, which is one of the most preserved streets in downtown Manaus. That's why we elected it to be renovated", explained the technical coordinator of the Institute for National Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan), Camyla Torres.

She also points out that the construction model, which is different from what is found in stone and brick, makes the houses "icons of colonial architecture". "They tell the story of the occupation of this area. There is also the issue of archeological heritage. So everything is linked to the cultural heritage of this area that we know in the related bibliography was a focal point of the city's growth".
