3. The Amazonas Anthem

Instituted by Law nº1404, of September 1st, 1980. Lyrics by the Acre poet Jorge Tufic Alaúzo. Music by amazonian maestro Cláudio Santoro.

In the shores of history the past
Is of wars, sorrow and joy
It's victory landing its wings
Over the green of peace that guides us

So it was that in the dark times
Of conquest supported by cannon
Our people planted their cradle
Free men on the ground plan

Amazons of the brave who give
Without pride, nor false nobility
To those who dream, your legend song
To those who fight, more life and wealth!

Today time becomes clarity
Only the hope that fights triumphs
There's no more mystery, and from the forests
A rumor of dawn is heard

The word is transformed into action
And the flag that is born of the people
Freedom will have on its cloth
The shackles destroying again

Amazons of the brave who give
Without pride, nor false nobility
To those who dream, your legend song
To those who struggle, more life and wealth!

So radiant dawns the future
On these rivers of wild weeping
That the drums of glory awaken
To the glow of an eternal landscape

But to live is the fate of the strong
The forest teaches us, fighting
For the life that vibrates in its branches
For the birds, their colors, their feast

Amazons of the brave who give
Without pride, nor false nobility
To those who dream, your legendary song
To those who fight, more life and wealth!

1. Manaus Flag

Created by the Municipal Law of Manaus no. 718 of November 20, 2003

The flag of Manaus was created by the Municipal Law of Manaus no. 718, of November 20, 2003. It is a rectangular Beige cloth, with the municipal coat of arms in the center. The beige color represents the Amazon River, which has in its muddy color the greatest identity of the Manauara people. The shield (coat of arms), instituted by Law, represents the culture and history of the Manauara people.

2. Manaus Coat of Arms

The Municipal Shield was approved by Taumaturgo Vaz by means of a Decree-Law on April 17, 1906.

The Coat of Arms of Manaus was first adopted by Adolfo Guilherme de Miranda Lisboa, at the time municipal intendant by legal nomination. The Municipal Shield was approved by Taumaturgo Vaz by means of a Decree-Law on April 17, 1906.

The three sections into which the shield of the capital's flag is divided represent distinct parts of the city's history. The upper left section illustrates the Meeting of the Waters of the Negro and Solimões Rivers; the discovery of the mouth of the first river by the expedition of the Spanish adventurer and explorer Francisco de Orellana in the 16th century; and the definitive foundation of Manaus in the early 17th century.

On the right side, the fortress and the Portuguese flag at the top of the mast signify the hitherto Portuguese dominance. The contrast between the naturalness of the inhabitants of Manaus and the modernism of Portugal, celebrated by the art of a military man and an indigenous woman, represents the peace instituted between the colonizers and the colonized - with the marriage of the military commander of the Portuguese escort with a daughter of the tribe's chief.

In the lower section, a tree and the stretch of river symbolize the agricultural and industrial nature of the region that has transformed Manaus into a major gummint force.

3. Manaus' Anthem

Anthem made official by municipal law #718, November 20, 2003.

Lyrics: Thaumaturgo Sotero Vaz | Music: Nicolino Milano

Amidst the pomp and royal wonder
Of these beautiful and grand panels,
All in light, like a sun rises and shines
The city of the noble Barés.

Great and free, radiant and beautiful
It has the flight of royal eagles
And I soar, soaring majestically
She no longer sees her other rivals.

He who does not fight does not win, because the fight
For good is what makes triumph!
Look: the bugle can already be heard!
It is fame that comes to greet us!

To the small and the good, among flowers,
It shelters and forgets the wicked,
No one suffers torment and pain
In this land of the noble Manaós.

All the people are happy, says History,
When they find themselves among endless pleasures,
Progress passing by the glory
In its beautiful and golden napoleon!
