O Amazonas Theater was listed by the site of the magazine "Vogue" magazine - the most important women's publication in the world - as one of the 15 most beautiful opera houses on the planet, alongside places like Opéra Garnierin Paris, L'Opéra in Sydney and Teatro alla Scalain Milan.
Inaugurated in 1896, the Theater surprises and enchants by its imposing size. The main cultural and architectural symbol of the state, the Teatro Amazonas, located in the center of Manaus, keeps alive much of the history of the rubber cycle, the golden age of the capital of Amazonas.
Made a National Historical Heritage site in 1966, the Teatro Amazonas preserves part of its original architecture and decoration. The architectural style is Renaissance, with eclectic details. In the external area, the famous dome draws attention for its exuberance, composed of 36 thousand pieces in the colors of the Brazilian flag, imported from Alsace, France. Most of the material used in the theater's construction was imported from Europe: the steel walls from Glasgow, Scotland; the 198 chandeliers and the Carrara marble of the stairs, statues, and columns, are from Italy.
The performance hall has a capacity for 701 people, distributed between the audience and three floors of boxes. It is impossible not to be mesmerized by the concave ceiling, on which are four canvases painted in Paris by the traditional Carpezot House. The canvases represent music, dance, tragedy, and opera. The latter is a tribute to the Brazilian composer Carlos Gomes. In the center is a majestic French bronze chandelier. Also not unnoticed are the masks on the columns in the audience, which pay homage to composers and playwrights, including Aristophanes, Molière, Rossini, Mozart, and Verdi.
Museum

Admission costs R$ 20 (R$ 10 for half-price) and Amazonians do not pay, upon presentation of supporting documents.
