The Opera Studio project aims to give Music, Theatre and Dance students from the Amazonas State University (UEA) the opportunity to participate in an operistic montage, in a supervised professional experience.
Love, ambition, betrayal and forgiveness compose the plot of the comic opera Don Pasqualethat will have some of its excerpts under the focus of the project Opera Studio of UEA'S OPERA STUDIO PROJECTnext Thursday (25th), at 7pm, at the Installation Theater Installation Theaterand on May 31st, at 8pm, at the Teatro Amazonas Theaterwith free admission. The initiative is part of the XX Amazon Opera Festival (FAO)which is sponsored by Bradesco Prime, the Amazonas Gas Company (Cigás) and Ambev, and supported by the Amazon Agency for Cultural Development (AADC).
The Opera Studio project, which has been part of FAO's programming for two years, aims to give Music, Theater and Dance students from the Amazonas State University (UEA) the opportunity to participate in an operatic montage, from character building to the study of vocal techniques used on stage, in a supervised professional experience.
UEA Extension Project in partnership with the FAO, the Opera Studio involves not only the students of the entire School of Arts and Tourism (ESAT), the courses of Music, Dance, Theatre, Tourism and Audiovisual, as well as scholars and volunteers from the community, who go through a selection process to be part of the initiative.
Professor Fabiano Cardoso, the project's coordinator, has already participated in at least 13 editions of FAO as a soloist, and today feels fulfilled to see ESAT students having an opportunity like this. "It is a work of solidification of the formation. Within the project, we give the students of the choir and soloists, six months in advance, the scores and the music learned. In addition, they have classes on Introduction to the Work, Period Aesthetics, Phonetics, Body Preparation for the construction of the characters, among others. It is, in fact, an opera, only supervised", she says.
By the Italian Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti, Don Pasquale is directed by the master teachers Fabiano Cardoso, in the artistic direction; Duany Parpinelli, in the musical direction; and João Fernandes, in the scenic direction. The project has Irina Kazak as pianist, and the main characters are played by basses Emanuel Conde / Roberto PauloSilva (Don Pasquale), sopranos Jaiana Silva / Luziene Menezes (Norina), baritones Alex Herculano / Luiz Lopes (Malatesta), tenor Isaías Monteiro (Ernesto), basses Marden Guedes / Régis Silva (Notary).
Coral da UEA
Created in 2001 and linked to the Music Course at ESAT, the Choir of the UEA brings together members of the university community through collective singing and currently has approximately 40 people, of which 15 are scholarship holders and / or volunteers from the community. Within the project, the Choir includes people from Dance, Music, and Theater majors, in the following suits: eight tenors, eight basses, 11 altos, and 10 sopranos. "The more students involved, regardless of the course, the better it is for the project," said Cardoso.
For Professor Duany Parpinelli, coordinator of the extension project and musical director of the Opera Studio, from 2016 to 2017 there was a leap in quality in the realization of the project, which has generated a positive expectation for the day of the performance. "The students of the project have undergone technical and artistic improvement, both those from UEA itself and members of the community. We see that they are getting well prepared for the labor market of opera, learning about everything that involves a show like this," he said.
The costumes are all from Central Técnica de Produção - Marcos Apolo Muniz (CTP) and all the necessary support is offered by FAO - stage, lighting, costumes and makeup.
"The opera will be presented in its fullness, as it was originally made, with only a few small cuts, but with all the works presented, reaching 1h15 of spectacle. This is the first time the students will perform. It will be good for the students and for the audience, who will be able to watch the play in a condensed way", Cardoso said.
The young Beatriz Lourenço, 19, in the Choir of UEA for less than a year, considers the participation in the project very fruitful for her training. "We have an interaction, a proximity with a show like an opera. With this experience, in the future I can think of similar projects in schools, churches, or in social actions with the community", he highlighted.
Gaetano Donizetti's creativity
Gaetano Donizetti was an Italian opera composer, one of the most fruitful of Romanticism. He is well known for his operas, but he also composed other types of music, such as string quartets, orchestral works, and others.
He was born into a poor family with no tradition in the world of music, but in 1806, he was one of the first students at the Bergamo charitable school where he was responsible for the music in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
In 1818 his first opera is performed, Enrico di Borgognawas performed in Venice. His first great success was with the opera Esule di Romapremiered in Naples in 1828.
Opera Don Pasquale
Don Pasquale (1842) is a comic opera in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti, with libretto by Giovanni Ruffini. It was written when Donizetti was appointed music director at the court of Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria, and was the antepenultimate of the 66 operas he wrote.
The opera tells the story of Don Pasquale a celibate, rich, polished and kindly old man living in the 18th century who wishes his nephew Ernesto to marry a rich young woman he likes. He also seeks a bride for himself, enlisting the help of his friend, Dr. Malatesta. But to help Ernesto get out of this, Malatesta offers Norina, the young woman Ernesto admires, to Don Pasquale, initiating a plan that is quite funny.
