Whatsapp gains features from Instagram Stories and Snapchat

The users of WhatsApp began receiving this Monday (20) an update that brings to the application features from Snapchat and Instagram Stories. Now you can post photos and videos that can be seen by your contacts. After 24 hours, everything disappears.
The videos may be larger than in rival apps. Instead of being restricted to 10 seconds in length, they will be able to have up to 45 seconds on WhatsApp.
This update had been in the testing phase since November 2016, made news again last week, and is now starting to reach the messaging app's 1.2 billion users.
"When WhatsApp was launched 8 years ago, it started as an app for sharing status updates, where people could type short text messages to let their friends know what they were doing," according to a statement from the company. "This new status tool will give you the option to keep your friends who use WhatsApp, easily updated in a simple and fun way, and all of us here at WhatsApp hope you like it."
"We are super-happy to announce that in conjunction with WhatsApp's eight-year anniversary celebrations on February 24, 2017, we have reinvented the status functionality," the messenger team wrote. "Starting today, we will make status updates available where you can share images and videos with your contacts on WhatsApp in a simple and secure way - yes, even our status updates are end-to-end encrypted."
Currently, Instagram Stories marks 150 million active users. We will soon find out if WhatsApp will also be successful.
