Igreja dos Remédios is located in Centro, Manaus. The temple occupies the site of an ancient indigenous cemetery. Major Manoel Joaquim do Paço founded it in 1818. The structure was destroyed during the Independence Revolution in 1821 after locals protested the governor's lack of support for the movement.
History and Architecture
Reconstruction took place in 1827. The current building features a neoclassical style with Italian Renaissance influence. Early 20th-century renovations altered its original single-story appearance. Italian architect Filintho Santoro designed the new church facade, with works extending until 1913. The construction has been listed by the State Government since April 12, 1988, under Decree No. 11.037.
The facade presents five sections divided by pilasters. The upper floor contains five full-arch windows. The central window features a cross motif stained glass, while the rear section displays a bell tower covered by a dome that was not part of the original project.
