The Palácio da Justiça is an architectural landmark in Centro de Manaus. Construction began in 1894 during Eduardo Ribeiro's administration. The building opened on April 21, 1900, while Colonel José Cardoso Ramalho Júnior led the government. Its lines follow the Renaissance style, although it is considered a classic example of architecture from the rubber boom period.
History and Heritage
The building is a century old. It was designated as state historical heritage in 1980. The site underwent important restorations between 2001 and 2002, so the space reopened as a Cultural Center in June 2006.
The structure is imposing. The Palácio is located behind Teatro Amazonas. A robust wall with balustrades protects the elevated area where the court was built.
