The Biblioteca Municipal João Bosco Pantoja Evangelista serves the public in Centro de Manaus. This space was established by law nº 971 on January 02, 1967, after the municipal administration sought to structure reading access in the capital. The institution is part of the Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas. It honors the writer and journalist João Bosco Pantoja Evangelista.
Collection and Cultural Projects
The collection contains 4,000 books. These works cover Amazonian themes, educational texts, academic materials, and Braille resources for inclusion. The library runs the Proler project through an agreement with the Ministério da Cultura and the Biblioteca Nacional. Other initiatives include Aluno Escritor and Janela do Saber, which aim to stimulate creativity among municipal school students.
Visitation Information
Access is free. Visitors must present an ID or student card to enter. The unit operates Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 17:00. It is located at Rua Costa Azevedo, 216, in Largo de São Sebastião.
