Mindu Municipal Park

Parque Municipal do Mindu protects 40.8 hectares of biodiversity. It sits in the heart of Manaus. The unit was established by Municipal Law n° 219 on November 11, 1993, after a popular movement of Parque Dez residents sought to protect the habitat of the Sauim-de-coleira.

History and Conservation

The name refers to the local igarapé. This is the largest igarapé in the city. The space serves to protect the Sauim-de-coleira, an endangered primate that became the official mascot of Manaus.

Semmas manages the park. The secretariat organizes cultural programs on-site. The park acts as a showcase for the Amazonian ecosystem while promoting integration between the community and the environment.
