Bosque da Ciência is part of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (Inpa). This forest fragment covers 13 hectares in Manaus. The space promotes scientific education and outreach for the local public, although it has faced access restrictions since July 2019 due to a reduced staff.
Operation and Visiting
Access is restricted. The institution only allows group visits that were previously scheduled by the support service coordination. The site operates Tuesday to Sunday, while Mondays are reserved for technical maintenance.
The public visited the site intensely. In one year, the forest received 100,000 visitors, of which 70% entered free of charge. Entry costs R$ 5, but children and seniors receive exemptions.
Structure and Management
The forest features 20 attractions. The team consists of four staff members and outsourced professionals for security or cleaning. Activity maintenance depends on curricular interns because many quit their internships due to a lack of financial resources for transportation.
Casa da Ciência is interactive. This area requires ten people to support visitors while presenting the Tramas da Ciência exhibition. Inpa seeks partnerships to ensure the integrity of the space after acts of vandalism.
